Questions & Answers
- What happens if the student is not at an intermediate level of English after 8 weeks?
IIA teachers will endeavour to have every English OZ student at an intermediate level of English within 8 weeks by providing extra homework and focused English workshops (if required). If, however, a student is not at an intermediate level within 8 weeks, they may have to enroll for further studies. - To what extent is the farm-work course provider involved with the student?
If they have a problem while working on a farm can they go to you for help? Do you have a grievance resolution procedure? Students may contact the farm-work course provider or IIA at any time and if in difficulties there is a freecall number to use. - How likely is it that students will get a job?
If they don’t, what happens? Jobs are guaranteed on completing the course. At peak times of the year you may have to wait up to a maximum of 2 months for a course place - once the course is completed you will go straight to your job. - Will students continue to receive food and accommodation on “unworkable” days, such as heavy rain/stormy weather etc?
This is not fruit picking - there is always some work to do on very rainy days, such as cleaning out sheds, painting, maintenance etc - How is the meet and greet affected by students who have already been studying at IIA?
Students pay for a Greyhound bus to Gympie and are collected there by Purser’s Coaches. - Is the second visa offer also available to on-shore students?
Only for Working Holiday Visa holders, not Work and Holiday Visa holders. - How much can I expect to earn?
Students will be paid award wages; a minimum of $350 per week including food and accommodation. Heavy machinery drivers could earn up to $800/week, however food and accommodation may not be included. The youth wage (under 20yrs old) is about 2/3 of the adult rate. Remember, in most cases you will be eligible to claim some tax back, so you may end up with more money at the end of financial year but you will have to do your own calculations depending on your visa status. - Do you have a maximum number of participants?
How many participate on average? We allocate a maximum of 4 students per trainer so you will have a ‘hands-on’ experience and not just watch. There are currently 4 trainers, therefore, the average number of total participants is 16. More trainers are hired during peak times so maximum numbers can increase. - What are your intake dates?
Intakes are every Monday except over Christmas and New Year and one week at Easter and possibly one in July to coincide with the school holidays.
