Study Options / Courses

• Foundation English: Intended for complete beginners or near beginners, this course provides a thorough grounding in the basics of English grammar. By the end of the course students will have acquired the "survival" communication skills necessary for living and travelling in an English speaking country. They will also be ready to benefit from AICOL'S General English, High School Preparation and other CRICOS registered programs.
• General English: This course offer a range of exciting and innovative courses for people who need English for professional development or social purposes. General English courses are available at four levels of proficiency from Elementary to Upper-Intermediate. Emphasis is placed on the development of speaking skills. The range of Special Options at AICOL varies from time to time but includes: Business English, Australian Studies, Pronunciation, Conversation Club, English for Tourism and Hospitality as well as preparation for a variety of international language tests - IELTS, TOEIC, FCE+ and TOEFL.
• English for Academic Purposes: This course has an entry requirement of Upper-Intermediate level proficiency in English and aims to prepare students for tertiary studies in Australia at diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate level. Students undergo a highly intensive program of study, which includes: Academic Writing, Presentation and Seminar Skills, Note-taking, Library and Research Skills, Study Skills and Computer Competency. The program also prepares students for the international tests - IELTS, TOEIC, FCE+ and TOEFL - the English language examinations required for entry to university and to TAFE.
• High School Preparation: This course is recognised by the majority of high schools in Gold Coast City as the most effective of its type and is designed to provide students with the English language and study skills necessary to succeed in an Australian high school. AICOL is an AEAS test centre (Australian Education Assessment Services). AICOL also offers a high school placement service for students who successfully complete the preparation program. The growing number of our former students completing high school in Australia and going on to higher education attests to the quality of this program.
• English for Young Learners: This course is for young learners aged six to twelve (6-12 years). It helps to prepare young children for the future in a happy, loving and secure environment. Attention is given to individual development in a multi-national class to ensure each child will not only acquire skills in English language but will develop a love of language-learning which will last throughout life. AICOL Young Learners gain a competitive edge.
